Frequently Asked Questions About Senior Photos

As seasoned senior photographers, we have sat with countless high schoolers and parents as they embark on the next chapter of their lives. Because of this, we have heard a myriad of questions and concerns from many clients over the years, and learning the answers has helped us serve everyone more fully. Today, we wanted to share some of the questions we are asked most frequently, and help you prepare for a senior session of your own. Whether you’re a parent or a senior, this information should help the process feel a little more seamless:

What if I’m worried about posing? We understand that it can be intimidating to step in front of the camera. After all these years, would you believe even we feel a little nervous having our own photos done? The good news is, this is something that we address with all of our clients. We spend tons of time talking you through each pose, and how to look natural and confident. We do not expect anyone to be a model or know how to simply show up and know how to pose. We offer plenty of constructive help, and can even demonstrate poses that we know will look great on-camera. Great posing begins with clear communication, which is always our top priority.

I have braces and/or acne! What should I do? Feeling self-conscious happens to everyone at different points in life, and you may be feeling like you don’t want these things highlighted in your senior images. It’s important to remember that we want your images to look like YOU, so over-editing is not the answer. Please speak with us if you have anything that you’d like to communicate to us about things like braces, weight gain or loss, acne or skin blemishes, or other concerns. Ultimately, our goal is to help you feel confident, and we have plenty of ideas and inspiration to help achieve that.

What if I can’t afford senior photos? This is a common concern when it comes to senior photos. We believe senior photos have value that goes above and beyond just a price. They can inspire confidence and self-worth in every graduate, and we offer top-quality images for the investment you are putting in. Our prices remain competitive for our area and our expertise, and our session fees start at just $350. We understand finances can be a big stressor, but you may not realize everything that’s included in your pricing. Please request a custom quote from us so we can help you plan accordingly.

How long will it take to get my images back? Our average turnaround time is just two weeks! We work hard to make sure your photos are back to you for viewing as quickly as we can, while still maintaining our impeccable standards. Please note that booking early is the best way to ensure that your images are ready for your graduation announcements or parties. Remember, all good things are worth waiting for! ;)

I don’t really understand the senior photo process. Will you help walk me through? This is what we excel at! In fact, our clients rave about our personalized process. From pricing to sessions, we plan every detail JUST for you and no journey is the same. From your first inquiry, we help explain the process, investment, and timelines, so that you can feel absolutely sure you are getting what you hoped. We also make ourselves available during the process to answer questions you may have, and work hard to make sure every client feels heard and understood. It’s a privilege and a joy to serve you and we take it seriously.

What should I be doing to prepare? We love that you’ve asked! Clients have several things that can enhance their experience, starting from the moment you book with us. Some of these things include: starting a great skincare and haircare routine so you are glowing and healthy when your session happens, making sure you are responding to emails and communications, beginning to shop for outfits and footwear that you love, and ensuring that you have all the other pieces needed (such as shape wear or the right undergarments). For parents, be sure to put the session date on your calendar, and help your child get enough sleep and hydration prior to the date so they are well-rested. Lastly, be sure that any haircuts or manicures are scheduled properly with plenty of time to spare.

I don’t know what to wear! Choosing a good wardrobe can be overwhelming for many seniors, and really exciting for others. No matter where you fall on the spectrum, wardrobe plays an important role in the process. Start by considering what makes you feel confident and comfortable, and think about the location and vibe you envision for your photos. Stick to classic pieces like jeans and jackets, avoid huge and gaudy patterns or large designer logos, and don't hesitate to bring a variety of outfit options to your session. Accessorize to add visual interest, and snap a few smartphone photos to see how things look on camera before your session. Remember, your senior photos are a celebration of who you are, so embrace your individuality and have fun with your outfits!

As your senior session day approaches, it’s okay to feel excited and even a little anxious! Rest assured that we are here to help you every step of the process and there are no silly questions! Communication is key. Together, we are ready to create stunning images that you will treasure for years to come. Ready to get started?
